Resource Capital Funds are private equity funds with mandates to make investments in mining companies and projects across a diversified range of commodities and geographic regions.
The Funds employ a range of investment styles including provision of development capital and buyout or distressed investing. The style of the transaction will vary depending on the nature of the investment. In all cases, the opportunity will represent a fundamental value proposition over a two to eight year time horizon.
The Funds have significant discretion to structure transactions to reflect the risks and opportunities associated with each individual investment. All investment decisions are based upon a fundamental understanding of the technical parameters of underlying projects combined with detailed modelling of the financial targets/projections.
Resource Capital Funds comprise one concluded and three active private equity funds that represent US$890 million in committed capital sourced primarily from US based institutional investors. RCF I, raised in 1998 is concluded. RCF II raised in 2001 is fully invested and largely exited and distributed to the Limited Partners. Resource Capital Fund III L.P. is close to fully invested while Resource Capital Fund IV L.P. has recently closed on US$527 million and will commence investing during early 2007.
The Funds are managed by RCF Management L.L.C. which has its principal office in Denver, Colorado and an additional office in Perth, Australia.
